The NHP flight operations unit consists of three fixed wing, single engine Cessna airplanes. Based at the Carson City airport is a turbocharged 1977 Cessna 210 Centurion. Hangared at the North Las Vegas airport s our 1982 Cessna 182 Skylane RG. Based at the Elko Regional airport is a 1984 Cessna 172 RG Cutalss. All airplaines are IFR GPS equipped and all have TCAD (Traffic Collision Advoidance Device) installed.
These airplanes are used for traffic patrol over Nevada's highways, performing traffic enforcement, locating traffic crashes and motorists in need of assistance.
Prisoners are transported across the state by aircraft; freeing ground based troopers from this task allowing them to remain on their beats policing the highways and assisting the public.
Command personnel can quickly be transported to disaster areas to assess and direct emergency operations. The earthquake in Wells is an example of this function.
Additionally, these planes are commonly used to monitor vehicle pursuits , providing invaluable bird's eye information about conditions affecting officer and public safety.
We provide air support and surveillance for allied agencies, assist in search and rescue operations and are available for emergency blood and organ transportation for hospitals.
