Captain Ellison began his Public Safety career in 1981
as an Emergency Medical Technician and Graduated the Daniel Freeman
Hospital School for Paramedics in 1983. He continued to work
Paramedic/Rescue after becoming a State Trooper in 1985. His Trooper
assignments included Commercial Enforcement in Las Vegas and Reno, which
included the Hazardous Materials Response Unit and a tour of duty at the
Consolidated Narcotics Units with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department
and was a member of the Governor’s Dignitary Protection Detail until
being promoted to Sergeant in 1992. As a Sergeant he was assigned to the
Winnemucca District and Reno Traffic and Commercial Operations. In Reno
he supervised the Inter-agency Criminal Enforcement Team, (I.C.E. Team)
which consisted of state and federal agencies. He was assigned to Las
Vegas upon being promoted to Lieutenant in 1995.
Captain Todd Ellison is currently assigned as the
Operations Commander for the Southern Command. His current tour in the
Southern Command began in October 1995 as a Lieutenant. During this time
he has been the Commander of Administrative and Special operations,
Deputy Commander over Commercial Operations, Traffic Operations in both
Urban and Rural and the Deputy Commander over Special Operations. In
Special Operations he commanded the I.C.E. Team (Inter-agency Criminal
Enforcement Team) and supervised personnel assigned to the VIPER program
(Vehicle Investigations Project for Enforcement and Recovery). He was
promoted to Captain in April of 2003. As a member of the Department he
has served in all three Region Commands in Urban, Rural and Commercial
assignments.
Captain Ellison is a graduate of the Northwestern
University Traffic Institute – School of Police Staff and Command. He
has received specialized training in Narcotics Investigations, Critical
Incident Management, Weapons of Mass Destruction Response and Criminal
Enforcement and Interdiction.
