Lieutenant Merschel began his Nevada law enforcement career on April 1, 1991 with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department. Lieutenant Merschel joined the Nevada Highway Patrol on April 19, 1993 and was stationed in Winnemucca as a traffic trooper. Lieutenant Merschel promoted to sergeant in 1997. He has worked in Wells and in Winnemucca as a traffic supervisor. In September 2004, Lieutenant Merschel was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to Central Command Operations in Elko. He has worked in traffic operations and most recently in commercial operations. Lieutenant Merschel is the coordinator for Central Command’s Public Safety Training Officer program.

Lieutenant Merschel holds his Advanced, Intermediate and Basic Nevada P.O.S.T Certificates. He obtained his a BA in criminal justice in May 2000. Lieutenant Merschel graduated from the Regional Sheriff’s Academy at Arapahoe Community College in December 1989. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp in February 1989.
