Lieutenant Steve Cabrales is currently assigned as the Graveyard Urban Operations Deputy Commander for the
Southern Command. Cabrales began his career with the Nevada Highway Patrol in September of 1980, when he was assigned to traffic
working in Las Vegas. During his tenure with the Division, Cabrales has been assigned to traffic operations out of the
Henderson Area, and the Accident Reconstruction Detail for that area. Cabrales was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in
December of 1993, where he was assigned to the Administrative Services. He was then transferred to Traffic Operations where
he supervised the Fatal Detail.
In July of 2001, he was promoted to Lieutenant, and was assigned to Las Vegas Administrative Services. In 2002 he was assigned
to Traffic Operations. In 2003 Lt. Cabrales was assigned as the State Public Safety Training Officer Coordinator for the Highway
Patrol, and was responsible for overseeing the Public Safety Training Officer Program for training new Troopers in the field.
In January 2006, he was assigned as Deputy Commander for the Southern Command Communications Center.
Lieutenant Cabrales has received specialized training in traffic accident reconstruction from Northwestern Traffic Institute,
Critical Incident Management, Criminal Interdiction, and Weapons of Mass Destruction. He is currently attending the Northwestern
University, School of Police Staff and Command, Class # 279 and will graduate in June 2009.
