Chief Perry began his law enforcement career in 1982 as a Trooper in Las Vegas. Moving through the ranks, his last assignment with the NHP was as the Operations Commander for the Southern Command; responsible for eight urban operations squads, four rural districts and three special operations squads totaling 133 personnel.

His most recent assignment with the Department was Chief of the Training Division where he was responsible for the DPS recruit training academies in Carson City and Las Vegas; and all in-service training needs for all Department personnel.

Chief Perry holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Las Vegas and extensive law enforcement training certification; including Northwestern University, US Department of Justice, Defensive Tactics Institute and advanced Nevada POST certificates.
